Back 4 Blood Card System

If you’ve been paying attention to Back 4 Blood, you’ve probably heard of the upcoming game’s card system. Developer Turtle Rock Studios, the original creators of Left 4 Dead, have made a point of showing off the upcoming game’s card system since it was revealed last year. However, a new trailer for Back 4 Blood revisits the card system for a deeper dive into how it works and what players should expect.

We already know quite a bit about the card system in Back 4 Blood. It’s integral to the game’s replayability, essentially offering new experiences with every run through a level. When players start a game of Back 4 Blood, a behind-the-scenes “game director” deals a set of corruption cards. These cards levy challenges against the players, throwing swarms of certain enemies into the level or reinforcing the ridden (AKA zombies) with armor. Not every corruption card add more or tougher enemies though. Some affect the environment by making it darker, for example. Others add challenges to the game, such as a time limit to reach the safe room.


Build your own deck

Players have two options when it comes to the card system in Back For Blood. They can either play with a pre-made deck or make their own. Player cards are always beneficial, but the range of power-ups they grant is incredibly varied. However, almost every card features some kind of drawback. Players can take an ammo stash, for instance, giving secondary weapons unlimited ammo. The downside there is that secondary weapons also take 20% more time to reload.

Players earn cards by simply playing the game — complete optional challenges and objectives and you’ll earn supply points and unlock new cards. Supply points can be used either to unlock additional cards or purchase cosmetics for your characters.

Back 4 Blood is set to launch on October 12 and will be available on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.Back 4 Blood Delayed
