Doomblade Metroidvania Trailer Gameplay

The indie gaming scene has seen plenty of 2D action Metroidvanias over the years, to the point where some may have grown tired of seeing them. Ultimately, though, as long as these kinds of games keep impressing audiences and maintaining a consistent bar of quality, then indie developers have no reason to abandon the genre altogether. Just yesterday, publisher Iceberg Interactive and developer Muro Studios unveiled Doomblade, a 2D Metroidvania with a great deal of artistic flair. The debut trailer that accompanied this announcement showcases the grim presentation and flashy gameplay of Doomblade in all their glory.

Throughout the trailer, the voice of the titular Doomblade weapon ominously talks the player character into wielding it and states that they “can grow strong” together. The trailer shows the basics of environmental exploration and combat, and it highlights some of the versatile abilities that players will obtain throughout the adventure. A tense metal track starts to play around halfway through the trailer as the player character cuts down strange creatures and intimidating bosses.


A weapon’s bloodthirsty revenge

According to the Steam pageDoomblade puts players in control of Gloom Girl, “the last of the Gloomfolk” who resides “in the Lowland caves.” She soon stumbles across Doomblade, a living sword “hellbent on escape after eons in chains.” Soon after she grabs hold of it, they set off on an adventure to defeat the Dread Lords that locked up the Doomblade in the first place. To do so, they must restore the Doomblade’s lost powers, which reside in a series of statues scattered across the underground.

The trailer certainly makes Doomblade seem like a compelling game in its own right, and dedicated fans of Metroidvanias will likely want to keep their eye on it. So far, the game has no definitive release date, as the Steam page states that the game will come out “when the chains are broken.”
